PHOTO MAPPER

Got a part with no template? Map it. Photograph it, tap two points a known distance apart, and the mapper traces it and scales it true — you get a print-ready 1:1 template of the outline and the holes.

What are you mapping?

How it works

  1. Photograph it straight-on. Lay the part flat on a plain background that contrasts with it — background showing all around the edges — and shoot straight down at it, not at an angle. A ruler or a known-size object in the frame helps. Works on anything you can lay flat and photograph straight-on: gaskets, plates, panels, brackets.
  2. Upload the photo below.
  3. Tap two points on the photo that span a distance you know — two ruler marks, two bolt holes — and type that distance and pick its unit (inches, mm, or cm). That sets the true scale for the whole template.
Before you cut metal: a photo can stretch a part (lens angle, tilt), so every template from this tool is stamped “MAPPED FROM PHOTO — PAPER-CHECK AGAINST THE PART BEFORE CUTTING METAL.” Print it, lay the paper on the real part, check the calibration square and the outline against the part — then fab.

Tap the photo to drop point 1, then point 2 — the two ends of a distance you know. Tap again to start over.

Mapped.

Print at 100% / actual size — never “fit to page.” Check the calibration square with a ruler, then paper-check the template against the part before cutting.
